WHAT IS 17.W?

A 17.W DOCUMENT IS NOT CONFIRMATION OF CANCELLATION OF DEBT REVIEW

THE 17.W DOCUMENT IS MERELY A  STANDARD NOTIFICATION TO CREDIT PROVIDERS THAT THE CONSUMER HAS STOPPED THE DEBT COUNSELOR SERVICES. IT DOES NOT REMOVE THE DEBT REVIEW FLAG FROM THE CREDIT BUREAU.

The 17.W document is issued by the Debt Counsellor when the consumer has - in one way or another - indicated that they do not wish to continue with the debt review process.

This document is issued by the Debt Counsellor as a notification to all parties (involved or included in the consumer's debt review process) that the consumer is not using the services of the debt counsellor as per initial agreement. However, cancelling the services of the debt counselor does not mean that the consumer is no longer under debt review or rather no longer over-indebted. Your credit profile will still reflect that you are under debt review until you have settled all debts under the debt review program or you have applied to court to be declared no longer  over-indebted.

THE 17.W WILL ALWAYS CONTAIN THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

This notice serves to notify you that: (Select the appropriate option)

a) The consumer has withdrawn from the debt review process prior to issuance of Form 17.2 and the credit bureaus have been updated accordingly via the NCR Debt Help System.

b) The debt counsellor has suspended provision of service due to non-cooperation by the consumer. The debt counsellor remains the debt counsellor on record.

c) The consumer has obtained a court order to rescind the debt review order. Credit bureaus have been updated via the NCR Debt Help System.

d) The consumer has obtained a court order declaring the consumer no longer over indebted. Credit bureaus have been updated via the NCR Debt Help System

If you did not meet the conditions in (a); (c) and (d)...then it simply means that you are still under debt review.

* The Debt Review Flag will remain on your Credit Profile indefinitely, unless you apply to court to be declared no longer over-indebted.

* Before you can apply to court you need to have your Debt Review Situation Assessed in order to determine if there is a chance that the court will grant the order to declare you No Longer Over-Indebted
